This morning we were scheduled to race in the tail of the lake regatta. Unfortunately do to the storm that rolled in yesterday morning, winds were still too high to have a safe race today.

Red-Tie Celebration
Saturday night was the Red-Tie Celebration! With a sold out crowd of 400, Seattle University Athletics auctioned off many items in both a silent, and live auction raising over $245,000 in gross revenue! The guest of honor for this soon to be annual event was Jim Whittaker. Whittaker graduated from Seattle U in 1952, and was the first American to summit Mt. Everest! He is truly and inspiration. I don't think SU could have picked a better alum to be honored at this event!

Team Banquet
We wrapped things up on Sunday evening with our end of the year banquet. Everyone looked lovely. It always nice to see the athletes dressed up and looking sharp!
The SU traditional awards were given:
Charley McIntyre Award (most improved):
Novice 8+
Emily Buck-Schmidt Top Nut Award (spirit of commmitment :hold the team together"):
Varsity 8+
Jim Gardiner Award (Most inpirational):
Jen Cruz
The team had an amazing inaugural season. The women proved to themselves, the university, the teams we competed with, and the ones we didn't, that Seattle University Women's Rowing belongs in Division I.
To the seniors, Audrey Shaw, Keara Collins, Katie O'Neill, and Taylor Orian, I wish you the very best of luck in your future life endeavors, I know you will all make it far. Come back and visit, whenever you can, and know that without you the would never have been the same.
To the returning athletes, work your butt off this summer, and be ready for another incredible season.
It has been an honor to coach these women, see them grow both in their rowing and life. I can only hope and pray now that I have many, many more years at Seattle University!

Last Race of the Season
We've finished up our inaugural season as a varsity team, racing at the Opening Day Windermere cup. Our Novice 8+ had a great race finishing 2nd behind Washington's first novice boat, and ahead of Washington's second novice boat. The Varsity 8 raced in the open event, dealing with some major steering issues from the fleet of boats.
I've got pictures coming tomorrow!
The women of the SU crew had an outstanding first year varsity season. The jump from club to varsity is not an easy one; the level and caliber of competition is much higher. The women of Seattle U pushed themselves to the limits, proving to everyone we belongs in division I. I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again. We surprised more than one team this year, something I know I'll never get tired of hearing. I am so proud to be a part of this developing team, as should all of the athletes, parents, alum, family and friends. I couldn't have happened with out any of you. THANK YOU!

"Ryan" Gosling
Tuesday Morning:
We found a stranded gosling looking for his family. The poor little guys started following the launches. He was lost and tired, so we pick him up out of the water in hopes of finding his parents on the way back in. Unfortunately we did not find them.
So, We let him run around for a bit, while we figured out what to do with him!
We decided to take him to a orphaned wildlife shelter PAWS. We should find out where he ends up soon! Best of luck little guy!

WIRA!!
We had some great racing this weekend! I am very happy with the results as are the athletes!
The Varsity 8+ finished 3rd in their heat advancing into the Grand Final! Surprising a few teams! The Varsity 8+ finished in 6th place overall.
The Novice 8+ was just shy of making the grand final, finishing 4th in a tough heat. The brought it in the petite final, taking it by open water! Nice Job ladies!
We get ready for Windermere Opening day cup this week! Last race of the season.

Seattle Portland Duel
Great racing today! We got almost the whole team in a race! V8 was within 2 seconds of Portland. Really happy with their result! I thought they had a great race. The N8 got off to a bit of a rocky start, the girls raced hard, but weren't quite able to pull back from it. I thought the N4 had a great race. It was these girls first race of the season, they loved every minute of it. Racing certainly is what make all the hard training, and difficult workouts we do all year worth it! We've got a big week ahead of us. Getting ready for WIRAs, in Sacramento, California! GO HAWKS!!

Novice 8+ Finishes First at Covered Bridge
This week we prepare to take on the University of Portland in our first, and soon to be annual duel! We will race at home, the only home race we've got this year. We've got lots of work to do to prepare for Saturday, but we'll all be ready! Races start at 8:10 on Saturday if you can make it! I'd recommend standing on the Freemont Bridge, as the finish line is almost directly underneath it!
Hope to see you there!
